Letters To Affect Change
To RonDeSantis :
Hi, my name is Marcos , I am a Mexican-American, I am from California I was born and raised here and I know that this law is not in California but this law affects all of us who live in the US. The Senate Bill of 1718 affects all of us in this country. Without hard-working immigrants in this country, the economy will go down.
Also, if you guys don’t stop this law, Florida will be more affected by inflation and this will affect all of us. About 1 million immigrants work in Florida. Most of our food and homes come from hard-working immigrants, they do most of the jobs that we Americans don’t want to do.
75% of undocumented people work in the USA and work the most important jobs for our country, such as agriculture and construction. About 1800 houses were being built in Florida but now, due to your law, your projects will never be finished. This law does not just affect undocumented people it also affects people who have legal papers. they are not going to want to work because there will not be enough people to work to finish these projects.
Immigrants are very important to the USA because immigrants also help counteract the slowing growth rate of the U.S. population, which helps drive the expansion of the labor force and contributes to overall economic growth. Without immigrants in this country, the country would have never been so successful. This country was built up with different races and immigrants.
Immigrants and immigration was a factor behind the decline in violent crime in urban America from the late 1990s and into the early 2000s.
Dear North Tahoe Public Utility District,
I’m writing to you guys today because I would like to propose an idea that our current soccer field located in Tahoe Vista and the Boys n Girls Club soccer fields all need night lights and more fields.
We need these lights and fields because it would increase the number of people who would participate in recreational activities and keep people busy and off the streets.
The whole community would benefit from this because there would be more space for people to go do things outdoors and not have to worry about booking a time to use these places. I say this because I play for Tahoe Arsenal Soccer Club and North Tahoe Varsity Soccer Team, and we like to go out and play, and most of the time, we have to play indoors (in my school gym, not even an indoor court) in a reduced place because the fields are in use.
If they’re not being used, the other issue then becomes the issue of being too dark on the fields. Recently, when I’ve gone, there’s at least 50-70 people wanting to play and most don't get to due to the fact that it’s either too dark or the fields are being used. Plus, this would bring more money in because they would get rented out more, especially because of the tourist increase.
I play in a league that rents out the Tahoe Vista Field a lot, but since it's only one field and it gets dark quickly, they can’t fit in enough games to play on that field. So it’s used very little even though it’s a beautiful field.
Thank you for reading this letter.
I look forward to hearing back from you.
Dear TTUSD Board Members:
As a minor, I feel like we aren’t taken seriously as to what we are really interested in for our future selves. I want an internship at Paul Mitchell Cosmetology School during my school hours. I already cut hair, I have over 10 clients at this school alone!
This internship could take place during my 5th and 6th period classes. My reasoning is that this could have a big effect on others' futures as well, to enter Paul Mitchell Cosmetology School you have to be 18 years old, but if we could bring the age down to 16 years old, teens that are interested in Cosmetology, by the time they graduate high school, they would have a job right away. This is very beneficial, this means graduates would have a job and not struggle as much after high school. From high school, they can continue their education by taking a business class in college to be able to have their own salon.
This is just an example, but many kids are probably interested in an internship due to the lack of electives that we don't have in our school. One new elective that we need back is welding. It's an amazing elective to learn. It's so beneficial for teens' futures. Welders are very successful; they make good money up to 35$ an hour, and 63k to 31k a year. Another example can be a mechanic class as an elective. Cars are something that this generation is very interested in and can be something a teen wants to be in the future. Until we can hire teachers who can teach these electives we can turn these into internship programs.
Another example is how having less electives is affecting students' behavior in school. Teens nowadays are bored in school so they tend to have bad habits. By giving us more opportunities for our future and interest this could probably have a big impact on less bad habits in school, teens getting themselves into trouble, because they would be inspired to do good.
Sincerely,
Natalie
Dear Gavon Newson
I believe that there should be a change in the prison system, Starting with Giving
prisoners more privileges and better places that they have to serve out their sentences in. I also believe that there should be a program for therapy and drug and alcohol addiction.
The reason for this is because studies have shown that 97% of the people in US prisons have committed these crimes because of trauma and 1.16 million people are in there because of drugs or alcohol.
The reason I believe that there should be more privileges for prisoners is because it can reduce the amount of crimes that are being committed. For example Switzerland, they have the lowest crime rate and Swiss people are very educated. According to a report of OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development), 86% of them hold a high school diploma. The
higher the level of education, the fewer people tend to be drawn into criminal activity. They also prioritize the rehabilitation of criminals by having them slowly introduced back into society. The reason for this is because after people in the US are getting thrown back into prison is because they have no place to go or any money so they get back into selling drugs or robbing stores. Therapy for prisoners, There should be a mandatory 2 years for the beginning of each sentence for prisoners, and after the 2 years are up check-ins for each 6 months to see how they are doing. The same for drug and alcohol rehab have them in there for 1 year minimum because most people have committed crimes because something happened in their life that was traumatic and they turned to drugs and alcohol or committing crimes. This could stop them from
committing more crimes and maybe stop drugs from getting into prison.
